Report on iACT2018 organized by ISA-SIT student section & ISA Bangalore

Conducted on: Sunday, 25.02 2018, from 8 A.M - 6.00 P.M

Venue: Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur

ISA Bangalore Automation and Control Tech Day ( iACT-2018) organized by ISA Bangalore and ISA-SIT student’s section was held on 25th FEB 2018 at Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur. Technical Quiz, Paper Presentation, Robo Rash and Project Exhibition competitions were conducted and 95 students of various colleges in and around Karnataka participated.

The event started off with the inauguration function. Dr. M. N. Channabasappa, Director, SIT, Tumkur, Mr. Ramachandra V Kerur, President, ISA Bangalore, Mr. Ramani Iyer, ISA District 14 president, Dr. Kannan Moudgalya, IIT Bombay, Mr. Anil Kumar HP, Managing Director, Agraj automation, Bangalore, Dr. H.M. Kalpana, Professor & Head Dept of EIE and ISA-SIT Faculty adviser graced the inaugural function.

Students from BMSCE Bangalore, VVIET Mysore, KLSGIT Belagavi, ASIET Cochin, BVBCE Huballi, RVCE Bangalore, RNSIT Bangalore, VITUV Vellore, and SIT Tumkur actively participated in all the events.

Dr. H.M. Kalpana, Professor & Head Dept of EIE and ISA-SIT Faculty adviser welcomed the gathering and appreciated the effort of ISA-SIT student members for volunteering and organising iACT2018.

She also felt happy to share that ISA-SIT student section was started in the year 2001 under Prof. GA Shashikumar, and was the first section started under ISA Bangalore. She also acknowledged the help rendered by ISA Bangalore for the organization of iACT2018, and efforts taken by Mr. S. Palaniyappan, Administrative Officer, ISA Bangalore Section who coordinated closely with all student sections, and Heads of the departments and Faculty advisers of various colleges for motivating their students to attend.

Current President of ISA Bangalore section, Mr. Ramachandra V Kerur spoke on the achievements of ISA and its effect on industries and students. Mr. Ramani Iyer briefed about the changes happening in technology and Mr. Anil Kumar HP highlighted on robotics and automation. Dr. M.N Channabasappa, Director, SIT, Tumkur, delivered presidential address.

There was a Keynote address delivered by Dr. Kannan M. Moudgalya, IIT, Bombay, on the decline of quality technical education in India, which led him and his peers at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) to design a Software that would allow students and teachers at every nook and corner of this nation to gain quality education at their own convenience. It was named as Spoken Tutorials, for which he also received the Google MOOC’s Research award. Spoken Tutorials has also won the Reimaging Education Award 2015 instituted by QS and Wharton School in the Nurturing Employment category.

There was an active sense of competition from all the 95 participants that lasted through the event. The events were designed to test them in different spheres of engineering and they did in all events: Technical Quiz, Paper Presentation, Robo Rash or Project Exhibition, all the participants showed a tremendous sense of belief and determination.

ISA Bangalore members judged all the events and the winners are as listed in the table.
